Green Ribbons, Fiji Water Proved Popular at the Ecologically Aware, Sizzling Hot 2015 Emmys and Governor’s Ball

So how does an Emmy contender sit through a 3-hour show, if she’s in a ballooning ball gown with a skirt as voluminous as Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Oscar de la Renta, Lena Headey’s Zuhair Murad or Regina King’s Krikor Jabotian, the latter frock covered neckline-to-hem in weighty – albeit elegant – mother of pearl?
At the Governor’s Ball, the official after-party following the Sept. 20 Emmy Awards telecast, King explained, “I just fold (the dress) up like an envelope.” Sounds simple enough and considering how glamorous King looked, any effort would have seemed worthwhile.
As for her supporting actress prize for American Crime, King said, “I’m over the moon,” adding, “It’s really wonderful.”
Jon Hamm, too, was all smiles, having snagged the lead actor Emmy at long last for his role as Don Draper in Mad Men. Surrounded by co-stars John Slattery, January Jones, Kiernan Shipka and others, he took a breath and said, “I’m just hanging in there.”
Reminding Hamm about how he said back in August at the annual Oceana Sea Change Summer Party that he long ago stopped trying to guess his chances at winning an Emmy, he said, “Nothing changed. I still wasn’t guessing,” he said. “This was very unexpected.”
In the crowd of 4,000, Allison Janney was a clear stand-out in her beaded, body-baring gown that shimmered in the ballroom’s soft lights, as did the Emmy – her 7th – that she held in her hand.
A winner in the best supporting comedy actress category for Mom, Janney named her gown’s designer as La Bourjoisie, saying, “I just tried the dress on and it fit.”
Clearly Janney has the perfect shape for such a revealing gown and moreover, she said she had nothing to eat but yogurt that morning. Remedying the situation, she seated herself beside boyfriend Philip Joncas for a relaxing dinner, Emmy on the table, shoes already off.
About the Green Ribbons…
With regard to accessories, Jeffrey Tambor was among those dressing up his black-tie attire with a green ribbon. (Among many others were Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin; comedy lead actress winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep, (wearing the ribbon on her purse and husband, Brad Hall); supporting actress nominee Gaby Hoffman for Transparent; lead actor nominee Louis C.K. for Louie; lead actor nominee Don Cheadle for House of Lies; and Kevin Rahm of Mad Men.)
Why? The winner for lead actor in a comedy series for Transparent said the ribbon represented support for world climate control and he referred me to the NRDC, or National Resources Defense Council, to find out more.
As for the Emmy, “It’s sensational,” he said. “This is a life moment. I’ve been given a role that is a huge privilege and a huge responsibilty. I’m thrilled for Jill (best directing winner Jill Soloway) and that we won 5 out of 11. It’s really good for ‘the little engine that could.'”
Also good was the fact that the temperature cooled down somewhat by evening, whereas before the telecast, a bottle of Fiji Water proved to be one of the most popular accessories on the red carpet, where temperatures soared to near-100 degrees. (Fiji Water was among the event sponsors.)
